Nathaniel Higgins, Life Scout with Mashpee Troop 36, built the stairs for his Eagle Scout project. He was aided by his father, architect Alex Higgins, and other scouts. The new steps replace old concrete stairs that had settled over the years.
Because the church is in a historic district, the design and materials had to be approved by Falmouth Historic Commission. By examining old photographs of the church, Nathaniel determined that the original stairs consisted of one large platform running across the width of the building.
Nathaniel dedicated the steps to his grandmother, Elise Jacobson and in memory of Skip Head, a longtime church member, who was represented by her son Brian Head.
Nathaniel is a senior at Sturgis High School.
