Southern Rail Featured at Outdoor Worship Service July 16

Nationally-acclaimed bluegrass group Southern Rail has been delighting acoustic music audiences for decades. The group will make a special appearance at an outdoor worship service scheduled for 10 am, Sunday July 16 on the bluff at the Waquoit Bay Reserve. The service is hosted by the Waquoit Congregational Church.

Southern Rail[‘s bluegrass is high energy exuberant fun with stunning harmonies, irrepressible good humor and sparkling banjo, guitar and mandolin.  The group has 12 recordings to their credit, one of which, an all Gospel compilation “Glory Train” was nominated for Gospel Recording of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association.  Two of the band’s founding members, guitarist Jim Muller and bassist Sharon Horovitch, were recently inducted into the RIBA Bluegrass Hall of Fame.

“We are excited to have Southern Rail lead our outdoor worship service on July 16,” said the Rev. Nell Fields, minister of the Waquoit Congregational Church. “What better way to celebrate summer and creation than with music in a spectacular outdoor venue?”

Over the years, Southern Rail’s recordings, featuring their prolific songwriting, have graced Bluegrass Unlimited’s Top Thirty Singles Chart for a combined total of 32 months, climbing to #11. One of Southern Rail’s earlier CD’s, a special Bluegrass Gospel compilation entitled Glory Train, was nominated for Best Gospel Recording of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association. Southern Rail has been selected by the New England Foundation for the Arts to be included in their prestigious Touring Roster.

Southern Rail features Jim Muller, guitar and lead vocals; Sharon Horovitch, acoustic bass and harmony vocals; Richard Stillman, banjo and harmony vocals; and John Tibert, mandolin and harmony vocals.

Waquoit Bay Reserve is located 131 Waquoit Highway. Parking is available on site, and the area is handicapped assessable. In case of rain, the service will be held under the ten on the side lawn. Attendees need to bring their own lawn chair.
