Mardi Gras Sunday Celebrated at Waquoit Church Feb. 11

Mardi Gras Sunday, the last Sunday before the season of Lent, will be celebrated Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024, at the Waquoit Congregational Church during its regular 10 a.m. worship service.  Mardi Gras Sunday is a joyful and uplifting service featuring jazz and gospel music provided by the Mud Flat Seven.

Mud Flat Seven consist of local musicians John Paul, David Jost, Jeffrey Hughes, Darrell Morey and Nancy Sparklin.

During the services, the “keeper of the alleluia” also will be selected. Based on tradition, the keeper of the alleluia is responsible for holding on to a symbolic alleluia until Easter morning. In keeping with the Mardi Gras theme, there will be beads, hats and masks, and lots of singing of new and traditional jazzed-up hymns.

Following the service, Cajun food will be served. There will also be a king cake.

All are welcome to this festive and fun worship service, regardless of faith tradition. Services start at 10 a.m. Waquoit Congregational Church is located at 15 Parsons Lane (corner of Route 28) in East Falmouth. For more information, call the church at 508-548-5269, and Rev. Nell Fields at 339-927-8972.
