WCC Holds National Day of Prayer Event May 2

WCC Holds National Day of Prayer Event Thursday, May 2

The Waquoit Congregational Church is hosting an interfaith prayer service on Thursday, May 2, at 6 pm. The prayer service coincides with the National Day of Prayer that is held annually the first Thursday in May.

First observed in 1952, The National Day of Prayer encourages people to gather and pray for our nation.

“We are at a critical point in our country. There are forces that seek to undermine democracy and divide people across this land.  It is important we continue to pray for the well-being of our nation, our leaders, and our communities and each other,” said The Rev. Nell Fields, minister of the Waquoit Church.  “We need to pray for a country where everyone thrives.”

Interfaith prayers will be based on the voices of Sojourner Truth, Howard Thurman, Dorothy Day, Pauli Murray, Rabbi Joachim Prinz, Ani Zonneveld (Muslim leader), Valerie Kaur (Sikh leader), and others who have proclaimed a public policy that is welcome news for all people.

In addition to prayers, participants will be invited to light a candle as a sign of hope and peace.

The event is free and opened to people of all faiths. The Waquoit church is located at 15 Parsons Lane, E. Falmouth, MA. 02536.
